Diabetes is a disease in
which the body does not produce insulin or the insulin produced is
insufficient or not efficient or the cells do not response properly to
the insulin produced.
Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas is
needed to transport blood sugar into cells for metabolism. When blood
sugar is not moved into cells, its concentration in the blood increases.
Over time, this situation may damage the blood vessels and give rise to
a host of health complications.
Many medical experts
agree that most complications of diabetes such as cataract, glaucoma,
retinopathy (eye problems), neuropathy (nerve problem), including non
traumatic limb amputation, nephropathy (kidney failure) are directly or
indirectly caused by free radicals.
Diabetics therefore have to be very careful with their sugar and
carbohydrate intake as well as controlling the excessive built up of
free radicals in their body. The same goes to those with pre-diabetes and
those in the high risk group.
My Cappuccino is table sugar free. Its sweetness is
provided by an amino acid based sweetener (AAB Sweetener) imported from
Japan. Though the sweetener tastes as good if not better than sugar, it has only 1/200 the calories of sucrose gram for gram and does not
affect our blood sugar level.
Table sugar only
contributes to calorie intake and does not have any nutrition value.
Excess calories consumed, if not ‘burnt’, may cause us to gain weight
and bring about other health problems. Malaysians are already consuming
too much sugar. Weight watchers
therefore can enjoy My Cappuccino without any guilt or worry.
In addition, sugar may contribute to dental caries. AAB Sweetener does
not have any ingredients that can cause dental decay.
Studies have also found that sugar can compound the negative effects of
caffeine on depression.
My Cappuccino is fortified with Grape Seed Extract.
Grape Seed Extract, well known for strengthening the cardiovascular
system, is a Super Anti-Oxidant, a very powerful free radicals scavenger
and antagonist.
The Grape Seed Extract is a mixture of procyanidins also known as Oligomeric Pro-Anthocyanidins (OPCs). It is 20 to 50 times more effective than Vitamin C and Vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals. It does not only neutralize free radicals directly, it also enhances the effectiveness of Vitamin C and Vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals.
Free Radicals (FRs) are unstable and highly reactive molecules having a stray or unpaired electron. Excessive FR causes devastating oxidative damages to our cells, tissues and organs contributing to many diseases including complications of diabetes, heart problems, stroke, cancers, premature aging, alzheimer's disease, etc.
